Plantar Fasciitis

PLANTAR FASCIITIS

- One of the most common overuse injuries in athletes, espescially distance runners and basketball players.

- Frequently found in non-athletic women, espescially middle aged.

- It is uncommon for the cause to be an acute trauma, it just suddenly happens (insidius onset) but can be brought on by change of shoes or training regiment.

- May be seen in combination with metatarsalgia, achilles tendinopathy or calcaneal bursitis.

- Pain for several days to several months in heel/midfoot arch.

- Increased pain when initially standing (first weight bearing in the morning is excruciating), walking, running . Seems to improve as activity continues, then gets worse at the end of the day or the next.

- Worse after short periods of rest (several hours); subsides after approx 5 min of walking around.
